2003 Update

I have let some of this site become pretty out of date so I thought I'd add a few photos of this year's lamb crop, and give you news of a few happenings in the Woolpit Flock.

Lambing Time

Expectant mothers - December 20022003 has brought a successful, though later than usual, crop of lambs.  The first were born on  17th January and the last on 27th March!  Not what we'd choose but we are at the mercy of Mother Nature.  For showing purposes, we want January lambs because they will be big in time for the summer shows.

The following picture shows what a difference a day makes - or, in this case, a month!

" Little and large! The big ram was born in January and the smaller one in March

My sheep live in a barn in January and February and most lambs are born inside so we very rarely lose any.

When the weather brightens up, I let them out for exercise and fresh air and these pictures show the ewes and lambs enjoying a sunny March day and a bite of fresh grass.

A good mixture

Spot the odd one out - there really IS a Jack Russell in there somewhere!

All that grass and they have to attack the daffodils!

Every year there's a lamb or two that just want to be friendly!  This ram lamb likes to have his chin tickled.

EASTERN REGION FLOCK COMPETITION

Every other year, a Flock Competition is held in the Eastern Region. Two judges travel round and look at different flocks on their home ground and award prizes for various categories.

The 'Woolpit Flock', that you see in these photos, was placed FIRST in the Large Flock category - a big honour and quite a feather in its cap.  This trophy is ours to keep for two years, until the next competition.

Woolpit Topper, a two year old ram, was also awarded the prize for Best Ram in the region!!
